چکیده
eyf served as a control. Intraperitoneal [Ii ]-thyeidine was injected. Three eyes were studied histologically and autoradiographically at 1 hr, 3 hr. 6 hr. 9 hr, 12 hr, 24 hr, 2 d, 3 d, 9 d, 12 d, 15 d, 18 d and 21 d. The epithelial cells were scanned from limbus to limbus. Analysis of variance and linear regression (SPSS package) were used for statistical evaluation. Results: The cells proliferated from the limbus toward the center of the cornea. In control eyes the epithelial cells advanced 17 microns/day at x coordinate. The generation time was 5.4 days. In the injured eyes the cells moved at a speed of 518 microns/day during the first 24 hr and generation time was 1.58 days; however, it subsequently slowed to 4.4 days. &&&U&D: The central epithelial cornea1 wound heals by proliferation and streaming of epithelial limbal cells from the limbus to the center of the cornea.

Mathematical model to compare the relative tensile strength of the cornea after PRK, LASIK, and small incision lenticule extraction.
PURPOSE To develop a mathematical model to estimate the relative differences in postoperative stromal tensile strength following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), LASIK, and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). METHODS Using previously published data where in vitro corneal stromal tensile strength was determined as a function of depth, a mathematical model was built to calculate the ...
متن کاملWound healing in rabbit corneas after photorefractive keratectomy and laser in situ keratomileusis.
PURPOSE To compare the wound-healing process in the rabbit cornea after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) with the same refractive correction. SETTING Department of Ophthalmology, Wakayama Medical University, Wakayama, Japan. METHODS Adult albino rabbits (N = 24) were used. One eye of each animal had PRK or LASIK with the same refractive correction. ...
متن کاملKeratocyte apoptosis after corneal surgery.
PURPOSE Programmed cell death (apoptosis) is the controlled death of cells that occurs with minimal collateral damage to surrounding cells or tissue during development, homeostasis, and wound healing. The authors hypothesize the keratocyte apoptosis is an initiating factor in the wound-healing response after refractive surgical procedures. To evaluate the effects of different corneal manipulati...
متن کاملCorneal regeneration after laser in-situ keratomileusis: wound healing process and visual outcomes
Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a widely performed refractive surgical procedure that provides excellent visual outcomes. Creation of the flap and stromal ablation disrupt corneal integrity and alter its function. Damaged epithelial cells release cytokines and growth factors that interact with stromal keratocytes to trigger the regeneration process. However, these interactions under the...
متن کاملAnalysis of the keratocyte apoptosis, keratocyte proliferation, and myofibroblast transformation responses after photorefractive keratectomy and laser in situ keratomileusis.
PURPOSE To test the hypothesis that (1) there are quantitative differences in the cellular responses in the corneal stroma after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for low myopia compared to high myopia and (2) there are both qualitative and quantitative differences in the cellular responses in the corneal stroma after PRK for high myopia and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for high myopia....
